The Story
Kaloka is a brand founded by Kika in 2016. The name means “renowned” and is derived from Sanskrit. Her interest in ceramics led her to learn from scratch, and she also had the opportunity to study it briefly while attending the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta. Initially, Kaloka’s products were made in other studios, but by June 2017, the brand established its own studio. Today, if you visit various coffee shops in Yogyakarta, you can easily find the studio’s distinctive ceramic cups.
One of Kaloka’s unique aspects is its seasonal themes. These are determined by Kika, the owner, based on research into emerging global trends—not only in terms of sales but also in production. Kaloka Studio currently has 12 permanent employees whose focus is on creating samples, while the production process itself involves empowering local artisans in Bantul, Yogyakarta.
